Rebel Wilson shared that years ago, before the #MeToo movement took off, a male co-star sexually harassed her.

The unnamed actor ‘called me into a room and pulled down his pants, then requested a sexual favor with his friends present, she told People.

‘It was awful and disgusting. And all the behavior afterwards – this was all before #MeToo – where they kind of tried to destroy me and my career. If it had happened after #MeToo, then I could have just blasted them, ‘Rebel, 42, said.

Rebel, who earned a Bachelor of Laws degree at the University of New South Wales, fell back on her legal training.

‘Because I’m a lawyer, I documented it. I called my rep. I got certain things in writing about what happened, ‘she said. ‘Definitely amongst industry circles, I made sure people knew what happened.’

Even now Rebel wonders to herself: ‘Why did I stay in that situation… with that awful guy? I should have left. It wasn’t worth it. ‘

She added: ‘But at the same time, I was like: “Oh well, do the right thing, be a professional and finish the movie.” Now I would never do that. ‘

Rebel noted: ‘I thought even complaining to my agency was a big step. And to complain to the studio. I found out I was like the fourth person to complain about the guy. Such gross behavior, but a lot of women have had it way worse. ‘

The Sydney-born actress argued: ‘If it happened again, I would probably stand up for myself even more just because of the bravery of other women that have stood up and now allowed me an opportunity.’

She first went public with the harassment allegation in a Twitter thread posted in November 2017, during the height of the #MeToo movement.

‘A male star, in a position of power asked me to go into a room with him and then asked me repeatedly to stick my finger up his a **. All whilst his male “friends” tried to film the incident on their iPhones and laughed, ‘she wrote.

‘I repeatedly said no and eventually got out of the room,’ Rebel continued. ‘I called my agent immediately and my lawyer made a complaint with the studio – basically to protect myself that in the event something similar ever occurred I’d be able to walk out of the job and not obliged to return.’

She alleged further: ‘Later I was threatened by one of the star’s representatives to be nice and support the male star. I refused. The whole thing was disgusting. I’ve told hundreds of people in the industry the story in more graphic detail basically to warn them off this individual. ‘

During Rebel’s recent People interview, she discussed how her staggering recent weight loss of over 80lbs was inspired by her desire to become a mother.

For years she has been candid about the fact that she was looking at the prospect of freezing her eggs. But when she visited a fertility doctor, he told her it would be best if she got ‘healthier’ before she started thinking about a family.

Rebel recently revealed on the U Up? podcast that she is ‘happily in a relationship’ with a mystery man whom she was introduced to by a mutual friend.

In her new People interview she said: ‘If I meet the right person, great, and then they can fit in with whatever happens. It’s great that the technology exists. You have so many options with surrogacy and sperm donors. ‘

She shared: ‘I only started thinking of fertility when I was 39 so you feel quite late but then there are women in their mid-40s who’ve been successful.’

The Australian comedy star pointed out: ‘I know what it’s like to be on the other side of that coin. And now I know what’s it like to get attention in the positive. There is a societal bias towards what society deems as good-looking. ‘

She acknowledged: ‘It’s not right. It sucks, it’s unfair. I feel sad if somebody doesn’t love the body they’re in. You want to celebrate all body types but I also want to encourage people to be healthy. ‘

‘Any woman who’s gone through it, I really relate to. It’s been an emotional rollercoaster. I don’t know how it’s going to end. But I’m still young enough to try. ‘

She explained on Instagram Live in late 2020 that while in the process of shedding pounds ‘I do try to stay under 1,500 calories, because again of my body type.’
